Meet Pastor Steven

Mobirise

Pastor Steven Walker has been the pastor of Parrish Memorial Baptist Church since early 2008. Steven grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina, in the apple country of Hendersonville. From an early age he attended church and was taught the things of God. At five years old, Steven recognized his need for a savior and placed his faith in Jesus. He was soon baptized. As Steven grew up, he grew in the Lord but was by no means perfect.

While attending North Henderson High School, Steven met Martha Gant. They were married in 1998, and have five children, Caleb, Lillianna, Cody, Jonas, and Weston. Martha pulls the hardest job for the family, staying home with the children and homeschooling them.

Following high school, Steven attended and graduated from Clemson University with honors. Steven then enrolled at Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2002. During his second year of law school, he was called by God to be a bivocational minister. Steven graduated from the law school in 2005 with highest honors, also having served as the editor-in-chief of the Campbell Law Review.

Following graduation from law school, Steven continued serving across the area as an itinerant preacher. He served as the Senior Research Assistant (attorney) for Justice Edward Thomas Brady of the Supreme Court of North Carolina from 2005-2010. Steven also attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. In January of 2011, Steven founded Walker Law Firm, PLLC, providing legal services to those in Johnston County and surrounding areas. In late August of 2013, Steven became General Counsel and Policy Director for Lieutenant Governor Dan Forest, and in February of 2019 he became Chief of Staff and General Counsel to the Lieutenant Governor. He currently serves the community as a lawyer in the firm of Walker Kiger, PLLC in the Cleveland area of Johnston County.

Although Steven has accomplished much by the world’s standards, he knows that God gets the credit for it all. “I know that without God I would be absolutely nothing. Anything that I have accomplished could not have been done absent God’s divine grace,” says Steven. “Paul had it right when he said: ‘Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.’ (Philippians 3:8)”
